Career Opportunities – Cybersecurity is not just ethical hacking or penetration testing

Today we are experiencing a significant evolution of the Internet. The operating model has completely changed. We the people today work with various devices and apps. For example we now transitioned from a traditional computer to a minicomputer in our hand like smartphones, tablets and smartwatch in our wrist. This change has really  made our life simpler, but it comes with all new levels of hidden complexity and risks behind the scenes. These devices with smartapps are always connected to the internet. It all comes with associated vulnerabilities too which hackers can easily discover and exploit. It is just a matter of time.

When you talk about cybersecurity, mostly people start thinking about hacking . Let us tell you that it’s not just about attacking and preventing. The Cybersecurity landscape has various different career options or roles. Cyber Security Roles Descriptions

Cyber Security Engineer

Working as a Cyber Security Engineer means that you will be responsible for keeping a client’s data suitably protected and free from the risk of cyber attacks and related problems. You will be responsible to operate and manage various technologies such as Firewall, Data encryption, endpoint security, data loss prevention, intrusion prevention system, email security, web security, web application firewall, Anti-DDOS and more.

Cyber Security consultant

This role is generally achieved after having experience & exposure in this domain of cyber security. It also depends on the organization business nature, size and other aspects of the requirement. As a cyber security consultant you will be responsible for certain technology decisions, management seeks advice in evaluating risks, fulfilling regulatory compliance requirements etc.

Security Architect

As a security architect, you’ll be responsible for designing security controls and their placement. After having an understanding of organization information technology deployment and associated risk you shall plan security systems to thwart malware, inside data leaks, hacker intrusions and Denial of Service attacks.

Security Analyst

Security analysts are part of the Security operations center (SOC).  As SOC team member you will be responsible to perform proactive monitoring and cyber investigation. You will get the opportunity to work on software tools such as  Security Incident and Event Management as well as Security orchestration Automation Response (SOAR). Your  job is to scrutinize logs and other data to determine how system compromise happened and who did it. These tools will allow and help to perform incident analysis. A security analyst protects his/her organisation from criminals. You shall also understand and make use of Threat intelligence in security operations as security analyst.
